Maruti Gypsy still alive, Indian Army orders 2,071 units

The Maruti Suzuki Gypsy continues to remain on sale in India, as a made to order model. However, sales are restricted only for the Indian Army.
Indian Army has given an order of 2,071 units for the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy.
Since 1991, Maruti Suzuki has delivered over 31,000 units of the Gypsy to the Army.
This is the second order from Indian Army in 7 months. 4,000 units of the Gypsy were delivered in December 2014.
The Gypsy is powered by a 1.3L petrol motor producing 80 BHP of power & 100 Nm of torque matched to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The bike is sold in 4×4 configuration.
Indian Army is also planning to replace the Gypsy with some of the latest diesel powered SUVs. But seems like that decision still hasn’t been made.
