2nd gen BMW X1 (F48) in India for testing, launch in 2016

BMW has imported the second-generation BMW X1 codenamed as the F48 in India for testing. This new model is expected to replace the current X1 in the Indian market by early-2016.
Based on the UKL1 platform, the major change in the new model will be a FWD setup as opposed to the RWD setup on the current model.

BMW has imported the FWD sDrive20d variant for testing powered by a 2.0L diesel motor. This transversely mounted 2.0L, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel motor produces 190 PS of power and 400 Nm of torque matched to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. AWD will also be offered as an option.
Overall, the new X1 now looks bigger with a more SUV-like stance.
Major changes include:
  • Sporty bumpers
  • Full LED headlamps (Optional)
  • New front grille
  • Revised ORVMs
  • New LED tail lamps
  • Much different roofline, towards the rear
  • New alloy wheels
Dimensional changes:
  • Taller by 53mm
  • Seating position raised by 36mm at the front and 64mm at the back
  • Wheelbase larger by 90mm
  • Rear knee room increased by 37mm, can be increased to 66mm by sliding rear seat
  • Boot space now up by 85 litres to 505 litres
