Next-gen Hyundai Verna codenamed as ‘RBI’, lands in India

Having dominated the C2 sedan segment for a long time, when the Honda City did not have a diesel reply to the segment, the Hyundai Verna is now struggling to hold ground.
The current generation Verna was first launched in 2011 & was given a facelift earlier this year. However, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz & Honda City have emerged as the top 2 models in the segment with the Verna having to make peace at a distant 3rd spot.
Now, Hyundai has already started working on the next-generation Verna which will be introduced in 2016. This new sedan has been codenamed as the ‘RBI’. The RBI has already been re-imported to India after having completed basic test runs in South Korea.
A couple of test models were seen back in January 2016 which revealed that the new Verna will now adopt the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language. The Verna will try to again make an impact with a very good looking exterior profile & try to attract customers.
Underpinnings are expected to be the same, but tweaked for better everything.
The model imported to India has a 1.6L diesel motor under the hood. We expect power, torque & efficiency numbers to be bumped up.
Hyundai’s new hexagonal front grille will also make an appearance on the next-gen Verna.
Expect this model to be revealed at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo.
Meanwhile, if you read about the Hyundai codename RBI being a compact-SUV or MPV, take that bit of news with a pinch of salt. Hyundai has been using the codename RBI for the Verna for a long time.
