2016 next-gen BMW X1 spotted in India

The next-generation BMW X1 has been spotted in India for the first time and is expected to be launched by early 2016
Codenamed as the F48, the new model will be based on the UKL1 platform & the major change will be a FWD setup as opposed to the RWD setup on the current model.
The X1 in India will be powered by 2.0L, TwinPower turbo diesel engine which could produce power in the range of 150 – 231 BHP. The new engines are also expected to offer a 17% bump in fuel economy. Engine will be matched to an 8-speed steptronic automatic.
Expect the new X1 to be locally assembled at BMW’s plant in Chennai.
Major changes include:
  • Sporty bumpers
  • Full LED headlamps (Optional)
  • New front grille
  • Revised ORVMs
  • New LED tail lamps
  • Much different roofline, towards the rear
  • New alloy wheels
Dimensional changes:
  • Taller by 53mm
  • Seating position raised by 36mm at the front and 64mm at the back
  • Wheelbase larger by 90mm
  • Rear knee room increased by 37mm, can be increased to 66mm by sliding rear seat
  • Boot space now up by 85 litres to 505 litres
  • 135 kg lighter than the outgoing model
